Not for you or me though. What’s for dinner for your dogs is the reason for this review. I try to give mine a variety of flavors within reason of the brand that I use. With the most recent problems with contamination you have to be very careful. That being said, you should still be careful and actually read some of the ingredients that are in the dog food. I have been trying to give mine the more natural food that has come out. They need that variety just like we do.
Now some people like giving their animals some of the canned slimy food. Trust me it is slimy and there was no way I was feeding that to my animals no matter how much they said it was good for them. Well now there is another alternative that I am going to have to check out. There is one catch though in that this brand needs to stay in the refrigerator. Freshpet Select and Deli Fresh are unique in that it looks almost like our own food so by visuals they might think it is a special treat and could be if you give it to them as treats. In reality it is an all natural and 100% fresh product which includes chicken, beef, turkey, vegetables and rice. Freshpet uses a pasteurization technique to process the product commonly used to process beef and dairy, hence the need for refrigeration as it is a precooked meal. There is an expiration date of 7 days once opening the package and a best before use date. All the ingredients are freshly prepared in Pennsylvania as they are locally obtained.
I am curious as to the price of Freshpet though, as I could not find a price list anywhere on the website but I can only assume with the freshness of quality and product it might be a little higher than the usual dry dog food or canned dog food. I applaud them for listing the ingredients of their product as well as a FAQ page that gives details about the product, the usage, and nutrition. The company is actually using a US factory that was once used to make “people food” which they have spent millions on to transform into the factory that it is today.
In my opinion, I think this is really going to be taking off because of the freshness. Who wouldn’t want to give our animals the most freshest of meals. We would not want stale food, neither do they. Reading some of the news stories about Freshpet it seems this product will be shipping out to Wal-Mart, Petco, PetSmart and even Kroger’s, not to mention cat meals will be coming soon too. As always though, be sure to check with your vet if your pet has digestive problems or needs to be placed on a special diet as this may not be for you.
