Unstoppable

As you may have guessed from the title of the movie something is unstoppable. Well if you have not seen the trailer it is a runaway train. Denzel Washington is the old and wise train operator and Chris Pine is the new punk on the block. Quips are said back and forth but ultimately the job is to stop this runaway train that has a massive amount of chemicals on it that could blow up a few cities in the process if not stopped.

They have some interesting characters in the movie that I can’t remember seeing in any others but was quite good. Sure you know in the end everything would get resolved but the story on the way there was quite good in my opinion.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians

A few weeks ago I went to see this movie. I’m still on a roll with taking my days off and coinciding with some good movies coming out. I almost forgot to post this review as I previously watched Cop Out this past Friday.

Well, as you may or may not have seen or guessed from the title and/or trailers it is man against the gods. Or rather a hybrid as it were as one parent was human and one parent was god. So we have Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon as the 3 brothers who happen to be gods. Poseidon’s son is accused of stealing Zeus’s lightening bolt and he gave a countdown on when it should be returned. Well, Percy Jackson is Poseidon’s son and he goes on this trek to ultimately save his mother who was taken by Hades and finds the lightening bolt along the way because Hermes’s son is the one who stole it.

I thought it was pretty good. I love Kevin McKidd as an actor (he played Poseidon) and only wish they had not canceled the series Journeyman. I still needs to buy that 1 series on DVD to have and watch again. I understand that some shows do not make the ratings cut but geez, why not have a vote on it.

The Tooth Fairy

Well, I had meant to go watch Legion this past weekend and/or catch up and watch Daywalkers but first Legion wasn’t at the dollar theatre around the corner from me and secondly, Daywalkers was only playing at night. Well, what other choices did I have that I had not seen yet? A few cartoons and a chick flick. Neither of which sounded appealing. So The Tooth Fairy was it. Lo and behold every known kid in the vicinity was there too. I went to the 4:30 PM showing. I was in a row with just 4 seats and I was sitting on the aisle like I try to always do. The theatre was packed and then 4 kids were ushered into my row by a parent. Some of them tiny so 2 of them sat in 1 seat but they didn’t stay. They were friends instead of family and kept talking then they said they couldn’t see and lets go find some other seats, in/out, in/out, in/out. I swear they must have come and gone close to 10 times. Where they finally ended up is beyond me but I was left to myself for 3/4′s of the movie.

The movie itself was quite good in my opinion. I’m glad Julie Andrews is still doing movies because she was good as the head Tooth Fairy. You must watch the credits though, I think those were the funniest part. If you look close enough Seth McFarlane is in this movie too :)

Family Movie Night

As far back as I can remember I don’t think we ever had a family movie night. I actually don’t know why we didn’t either. I love watching movies and will go to a movie all by myself all the time. I love having the freshly made popcorn with something sweet to mix in with it. Most of the movies I end up watching are the mystery, comedy, horror, action, and even the comic book series ones to a point. I never really was a fan of Batman.

I think had we watched movies together as a family they’d probably be something we could all relate to, be a comedy, or be something that each of us could take something out of to heart. I’m not so sure watching movies just for the sake of a message would hit home for most and if the kids knew that was the only reason they were watching it, they’d be even more against it than when they when they started. You have to sell these types of movies to kids in my opinion. Like with All Roads Lead Home The Movie, I’d watch it just for the fact of the horses and the actors. Most kids would like it just for the horses and the ranch. I remember Jason London from his role as a priest and think he’s a pretty good actor. Who couldn’t not like Peter Coyote? There are some people that just belong in certain roles and I think he fills these type. Peter Boyle, everybody knows him as the cranky father in his most recognizable role in my opinion.
