Dog Sitting

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 | Animals with 2 Comments

So I’ve been dogging sitting for a friend since last Friday. They get picked up today and man I can’t wait. I love them to death but they are driving me crazy at this point lol.

As you can tell they got comfy pretty fast which is good but the puppy is so hyper. I completely forgot how hyper puppies were and ill mannered. He’s still nippy and annoying the heck out of my younger one who is 4. He whined when I put him in his kennel for the night and barked some too which is to be expected. Finally, he is an even bigger digger than my two combined. I’m going to have to buy a bag of dirt to fill in all the holes because he flung the dirt far and I can’t move it back into the holes.

The elder dog is so mellow. He just let’s things roll unless he’s chewing on his bone, then you better stay away.

I know they will both be happy to go home but I think they had a good time. I can finally leave the doors upstairs open now too. The puppy is an excitable piddler so he wasn’t allowed in any of the bedrooms.

Puppies are gone at 11:30 PM – I’m out!

What a Day

Well my day actually sort of ended around 2 AM as I finally painted the kitchen. The only room not painted now is my bedroom and I’m thinking it ain’t gonna get done for years to come lol I still have the trim to do on the stairs and the hallway trim upstairs and the bathroom trim actually since I never did it when I painted that room. Then I’ll be done with the painting for some time. I then had to get up at 7 AM because a friend was dropping off her 2 dogs for me to watch as she goes to Disney with her kids. Little did I know one of them was a 7 month old puppy. I knew she had 2 but I hadn’t been over to her place since she got the new dog so I was a little surprised to say the least lol. As any animal person knows it is nothing but excitement for this little guy and he’s one of those piddlers when he gets excited kind too :uhh: So ya, this will be interesting. At least it really won’t matter for the living room carpet since I’m going to rip it out and replace it with vinyl anyways. She was late dropping them off though. Should have known really because she’s late for everything.

Since I was off I had scheduled my cable company to stop over to give me my digital box and swap my internet outlet to my room. I don’t know why I couldn’t pick up the box, I can hook it into my TV just as well as that guy did. But then the snafu came when I left and came back and couldn’t get it to work. I had to call them up to get it figured out. Apparently you have to use THEIR remote to shut off the TV and turn it back on for it to catch the TV and cable box because the box turns off when the TV goes off. That’s messed up because on my way out in the morning I push the button on the TV because the TV’s right next to the door.

Then I also had the plumber to come by to see if he could do something with the fiasco of a tub I have. I tell you the mickey mouse job on this is horrendous. Never get your friends to fix things like this owner did. It just goes bad. I can’t clean this shit because the silicon comes off when I scrub it. I bought new handles the other day since the guy was coming and I have to go back out to get another set because for some stupid reason they decided to change some of the stems and the cold water stem is larger than the other 2 so the knob doesn’t fit that one. Idiots. As you can tell they actually used a butter lid to do that redneck fix. :nono: In the end I didn’t get him to fix it because he gave me a quote of around $200 and I wasn’t willing to shell that out. I was willing to do under $100 just to get it fixed. Now I’m going to have to beg to get it fixed like everything else around here.

Then I trekked my 2 dogs down to the vet to get their nails cut because I can’t grind one of them because she refuses to sit still for it so it’s the old fashioned clipping with the nail cutter. Pepper gets the nail cutter and then the grinder because hers grow so fast. She’s had her nails quicked like 3-4 times when she’s has surgery to remove lipomas. She actually could do for another round but I’m not going to do it because she’s getting older. She’s due for her annual exam this month I found out as well as Stormy so I’ll get that done in the next 2 weeks and make them draw some blood on Pepper to make sure her innards are doing okay. She had a semi elevated liver panel last time.

Petmate Durabed Dog Bed

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011 | Animals with 4 Comments

This Christmas the dogs earned themselves some nice big gifts. I bought myself a much needed used laptop that is spectacular and absofrickinlutely nothing wrong with it. I also bought myself a Nookcolor so I am able to read my books without having to take them back to the library before I am done reading them since I have limited time due to my classes. Best monies I’ve spent if you ask me.

I got the dogs a Petmate Durabed Dog Bed from PetSmart. Initially I did this because my first floor is concrete and since they are in the kitchen while I’m at work Pepper’s bed was getting sort of flimsy and she was having to keep getting up from the floor all the time. Pepper’s into her teenage years now and I wanted her to be up off of the floor and have an easier time getting in and out of her bed. So while I got one for Pepper I figured why not Stormy too so I can get rid of the extra large kennel that she was using to get some more space in my kitchen. I was mistaken on that part as you can tell how big these large beds are but I swear they LOVE them. I mean I just took this picture and usually Pepper is upstairs in her bed and Stormy is laying next to me on the couch.

Took me about 20-30 minutes each to put together and I did that last night. The beds can be washed if necessary and since I didn’t like how thin the filling was I put that old comforter on top of them which was big enough to spread across both. Best 40 bux/each I spent. The frames are metal so I’m hoping they will last a long time. I also bought some 1 1/4 in rubber leg tips so it won’t slide around on the tile floor. There are 4 different sizes and had Stormy been a little less weight I could have gotten away with the medium size but she’s close to 50 lbs so I went ahead with the large size as I don’t want it to collapse when she is in it. After having put it all together I could have gotten the medium because I’m sure it could take her weight.

Spoil your animals people, and do it with these beds.

Crazy Weather

So the weatherman this morning said we’d get thunderstorms this afternoon. Sure okay, no problem. What he didn’t mention was all the havoc that came with these ones.

I get in the car and hope I get to hear a traffic report because I know it is going to be bad, the sky was already turning black. What luck, I get a traffic report until I heard it. Apparently all hell broke loose in Summerville with pouring rain and flying debris. Lightening struck some of our marshes and that was on fire. Then at the end they said this just in the water at the beach was on fire too!! Tons of accidents and now we have a tornado watch going on with hail here and there.

So I make it home through all of this to have to clean up the kitchen floor because one of the dogs had gotten sick :/ Nasty smell. I have the backdoor open right now to vent the place. Thank goodness for a covered back porch lol

Florida Bound

Growing up we used to go to Florida on an almost yearly basis during the summer to visit my grandfather and great grandfather. I still go to Florida on my own vacations either by myself or with friends although I haven’t really had a vacation in almost 10 years and that will just have to change now that my car will be paid for next month. We never made it to any Disney attractions but I took myself to SeaWorld one year. I loved watching the penguins and even got a front row to see Shamu. I was drenched at the end of the show but luckily I was wearing my bathing suit at the time under my clothes.

The last time I was down there we stayed in Kissimmee for week on a spur of the moment kind of thing at the end of August. Each day we did only 1 major event. The first day food shopping of course. Then one day was a movie, another shopping at a pottery barn. Some of the things I cannot remember it has been so long but after that one event it was always pool time and then dinner and lounging. One day we were supposed to go to the Animal Kingdom but I left a couple days early and missed it. I wanted to walk through the Animal Park and see all the wildlife from Africa to Asia as well as take a tour through the jungle paths and the Cretaceous Trail which holds living plants and animals that have managed to survive since prehistoric times.

Next summer for sure I am going back whether with friends or by myself again. I plan on visiting the Animal Kingdom this time and hopefully get to play with some of the wildlife like the monkeys. At the very least maybe they will have a petting zoo. Staying at the Walt Disney World Animal Kingdom Lodge would be ideal since that is the place I am most excited to see and would most likely go near the end of August again because I think most families are heading home to get ready for school by then. I’d recommend every parent take their child to Walt Disney World because I feel like I’ve missed out on something even now since I have only seen SeaWorld.

Stormys Lost Weight

Friday, July 9th, 2010 | Animals with Comments Off

Every now and then I check both the dogs collars to make sure they are not too tight or too loose depending on if they gain or lose weight. Now Stormy is overweight but recently her collar has been really loose which makes me think she’s losing too much weight too fast. Oddly enough when I checked Pepper’s collar hers was a little too tight. And I’m like what’s going on. Pepper is getting up there in age as she is 12 this year so this didn’t go over to well in my mind. She had some blood work drawn when she had her last surgery which I believe makes it about 4 or 5 surgeries now for either lipoma removal and/or her nails being quicked because they grow so freaking fast.

After a while I got to thinking about when I had them in puppy jail (ie the kennel) for when I was in Tennessee for our kidney camp. They immediately take their collars off when I drop them off and place cheap paper collars on with their names until I come back to pick them up. I figure they must have mixed them up when they put them back on the dogs right before I picked them up. Both of their ID tags fell off because the metal got rubbed away and both of their collars happen to be blue. Go figure.

All this makes me wonder though if I shouldn’t just get them both back in to see the vet to have them checked out just in case they weren’t mixed up. More money out of my pocket that I don’t have at the moment obviously and they both are healthy. Sometimes I wish pet insurance is comparable to our health insurance in price and what they pay for because it might be worth obtaining. Searching around to compare pet insurance might be worth my while. If I could find one that includes puppy jail even better. That’s at least a one time a year deal although if it were cheaper maybe more. Homeowners could use this for the liability part of it should an accident happen at the house. Think about it.
