Proactive Behind the Wheel

I get phones calls some times when we have clinic that a patient is going to be late when they might get stuck in traffic or just general circumstances occur. I do appreciate those because then we know we have another person to look forward to showing up especially if they might be the last one for that morning or afternoon. Well, yesterday I got a phone call from the child himself. He must have said his name first right after I answered the phone because I did not quite understand him and asked him to repeat it and he said it again. Okay, got the name. Then I hear the dad in the background, tell them we have a 9:30 appointment. So the child does. Then I hear the dad say we are going to be late, caught in traffic. The child does. I had to laugh honestly. I think that is the most proactive person I’ve come across while driving and using a cell phone. He had to have dialed the number or rather hit a speed dial and passed the phone off to the child. I commend you. If only we could get more people to do this.

While we are on the subject of appointments. It is soooo not cool to just not show up to your appointment and it actually aggravates us because we could have had other people waiting to get in to see the doctor come in place of your spot had you bothered to call and notify us. So please people, call whomever you are going to see if you plan on not coming so it can be rescheduled. It is a waste of everybodies time.

So true. The “lateness” is not as big a issue as just being informed of what happens. Time is precious, and it shows a complete disregard for others’ time, and disrespect if you do not notify them when an appointment will be missed.
