Exactly why I need to finish getting my degree. I know of 1 friend who would higher me without a degree and he is in a position to do that but I most likely wouldn't get what I could if I had a degree and it would not be a heck of a lot more than I make now at the hospital.

I've also been struggling with the fact that some companies won't employ you unless you have all the official qualifications for the job, and though I believe that a lot of people with the most valuable experience don't have qualifications, I also realize that its a big risk for a company to employ someone who doesn't have anything relevant behind their name.

As for myself, I've been working in the software development industry for nearly 6 years, without any qualification, and strangely enough I've always been employed

I guess in SA it really depends on the size / type of company which you want to work for, because I know some of the people at my current company might have qualifications, but not at all relevant to their jobs here, and still they're excellent at it.

One day however, I still want to do at least a diploma in something IT related. I've found that when trying to immigrate to either New Zealand or Australia, a qualification is absolutely essential.
