Hypertension

As I’ve been surfing the blogs I’ve noticed that alot of people have been finding out that they have either mild hypertension or moderate hypertension. There are some simple ways to try to keep your pressures down if its not genetically related. Now most people, unfortunately, do not find out about their hypertension until they start seeing a doctor for weight loss. That is a factor as well. Not to offend anyone, but this is how we explain it to the children we treat :) So you should try to avoid these things:

1. Caffeinated sodas.
2. Yellow salt - cheese.
3. Red salt - ketchup.
4. Green salt - pickles.
5. Fast foods.
6. Orange salt - any kind of chips.
7. Canned soup/vegetables - You can’t imagine how much sodium is in that. So please buy the low sodium soups/vegetables.
8. Don’t add salt to your foods.
9. Meats - bacon, hot dogs, processed meats.

Now the normal blood pressures for adults is 120/80 although recently they have started to become more lenient and will accept blood pressures as normal up to 130/90. This actually could be considered prehypertension in most areas though as physicians still hold to the strict standard of normal as 120/80.

Some easily noticable symptoms of high blood pressure include blurry vision, dizziness and headaches. Having high blood pressure consistently gives you a good chance of developing some sort of cardiovascular disease.

Please see your doctor for any of these symptoms and try to avoid a high salt diet!

  1. Hmm. I’ve never heard it referred to as, “red-salt”. Well, of that list I am guilty of the ketchup (because it goes on everything), and bacon. I only recently started eating bacon, and also noticed my blood pressure up. Since I’ve always been right on target, I didn’t think much of it. Neither did my doctor.

So thanks. You’ve given me something to think about. Do my eggs really need ketchup? And I’ll stop eating bacon too.

  3. Tobasco on eggs? Bleeeck.

But hey, I started using Salsa on my baked potatos instead of sour cream. So that’s good, right? :)
