Got Any Ideas?

I don’t know about where you work but where I work the housekeeping staff just as soon not be there at all for the lack of things that get done. The have managed to steal some personal CD players, get into some work computers, use phones and run up charges for their own personal use, not to mention trying to steal their own equipment by hiding it in the ceiling tiles until they can get to it. Those were found when the IT department was running some new cable as it happened to be in one of our offices. So, anyways, I will come in and my clock will be unplugged and blinking, and my computer turned off and back on to the boot up password. Yep, I have my computer boot locked because of those morons. Not too mention I have to lock up 2 of the phones because they so totally goop them up with make up and grease from whatever lotion or whatever they have on. It is nasty and the long distances charges are annoying. I can’t understand who they could be calling at 3-4 AM? Not to mention the naps they take at the desks that I have literally caught them doing when coming in in the morning as well as them just going through every single drawer not locked. Although they still try to get into the drawers even when they are locked because I can tell.

Anyways, the most recent is the fact that they have stolen a small lotion I had on my desk which I have since replaced and they are using that one too because it is all gooped up too. So I was thinking of putting some superglue in that and see how they like it then but I wouldn’t know when they used it. I could only assume when something adverse happens to my desk lol

What have you thought up for your housekeeping staff?

UPDATE: This morning I come in and they have unplugged everything yet again and tried to get into my computer. I mean really, why? What kills me is that they have to unplug at least 3 plugs to get it all. It really pisses me off.

  1. Where I work there is a little old lady that comes in and cleans at night. She’d be more likely to leave you a gift than steal from you.

How about Elmer’s Glue? It would still get goopy like the lotion, but would be a good lesson for them as they try and try to get it rubbed in!

  2. That must be sooo annnoying. I’ve never had a problem like that - especially not the fact that they do it so openly and without any shame!! The ought to be taught a lesson, really!!

I’m sure the glue in the lotion will work, but there much be some kind of prank you can find for the plugs too.

Like putting something ’snot’ like on it?

    I dunno. :P

Still it would irritate the shit out of me!!!

You seem to be MUCH cooler about it than I would’ve been.

  3. Well the “snot” gives me an idea as these plugs are black I could get some shoe polish to put on them.

  4. I have run into this same problem at work. I too left a bottle of lotion on my desk and notice how quickly it’s contents were diminishing before my eyes. They also stole a co-worker’s lighter. You always hate to just accuse but there are cases when you know who it was. Sounds like better background checks need to be done before hiring these people. I finally said something to my boss and it was taken care of.

  5. That must be so annoying. I like the shoe polish/snot/superglue idea. They need to taught a lesson alright.

  6. It’s hard for me to imagine something better than superglue in the lotion bottle. That had me laughing hard in real life. I’m pretty sure you’d probably find out shortly after if they used it or not, as their hand would be stuck to the next thing they touched and wouldn’t be able to remove it, lol.

I would go insane working in your workplace though. Stuff like that drives me NUTS. I’d go witht he superglue and please, post about how that goes. lol.

  7. Oh my goodness! Why are they “still” the housekeepers? I think you can still find itching powder in joke shops, or maybe through Spencer Gifts … just sayin’! Oh, and KY Jelly could be mistaken for snot.

  8. at my last job, my computer suddenly had pop-ups galore for sex and gambling sites. the it department got a kick out of it, but i didn’t think it was funny. i checked my history and the person that was using my computer was selling something on ebay, so i contacted the seller and told them to get their grubby hands off of my computer or i will report them and they will be unemployed.

no one touched my computer again.

  9. Dag now that messed up. I know one coworker got nailed by the IT department because housekeeping was watching porn on it and the only reason we knew it was because she told them to look at what time it was and when they saw it was like 3 AM they knew it wasn’t her.

  10. That would annoy the crap out of me. Our office had someone steal the toys we were collecting for the Toys for Tots program one Christmas. After hours, so likely someone on the cleaning staff.

Why can’t your security department set up a hidden vidcam — is it because the problems aren’t costly (yet)?

  11. Here’s what someone I knew did when his housemate kept stealing from his wallet: he used one of those pinhole cameras and caught the culprit on tape. And threatened that he would bring this to the police. Not only, did the housemate pay back all the money he stole PLUS extra, the housemate also moved out within 3 days!
