Gas Mower or Electric Mower?

mowerSo I try to read our broadcast messages at the hospital every now and then to see what sorts of deals we might be getting around town on some events because we usually do and I come across one that says “Exchange Your Gas Mower for a Battery Powered Electric Mower”. Now it goes on to say how we should and could cut down on the pollution by swapping out our lawn mowers with an electric one for discounted prices. I’m intrigued enough to go have a look at the website because I could use a new lawnmower about now. My only concerns are that it will last for a few years and that it actually is as powerful as the one I currently have at mulching up all the leaves and stuff.

Well, the first thing I noticed was that they are bright lime green. I think I’d miss looking at my red one personally but I’d get over it. Then I click through to the actual website to see the prices of them and nearly fell over. Now mind you I paid about $160 or so for my little gas guzzler of a mower. They want $459 for an electric mower at a DISCOUNT plus $45 to ship the sucker which brings it back up past its original price of $499. No thanks. I’ll kill off my gas guzzler and then buy another one in a few years for another $160 thank you very much. They also say that one battery charge would do about 1/3 acre and then you’d have to recharge or get an extra battery to finish it off. Now I mow more than that every weekend because I have to do my yard as well as the owners next door because she can’t do it so that wouldn’t work for me. I’m not into mowing lawns twice a week when I can get it all done in one day.
