Dog Breeds

You know with as many different dog breeds we have out there, people who own dogs can attempt to get that perfect fit between owner and pet. Whether you are active or not, live in an apartment or somewhere where there is a yard, needing a guard dog or not, or even children friendly, it is possible to find that special friend to occupy your time while at home. It actually amazes me at how some people will just buy certain breeds because they are “popular” having no inkling of what it takes to take care of that animal or any animal in general. I encourage everybody to read up on the different dog breeds out there to get yourself well informed before obtaining that next pet.

I remember when I was growing up, my sister and I had a Spitz as our pet. He was very, very protective over us and even my parents had somewhat of a difficult time getting near us but that was okay because no one else could. When my brother was born, however, we gave him to my grandmother because of that fact and the fact that he had nipped my fathers hand on a few occasions when he was coming near us. So they did not want to chance that with my brother. Then we also had a German Shepard/Collie mix who guarded our house and a Collie who really was just for play. All dogs can be taught.

When looking into the dog breed of choice you really have to ask yourself a few questions. Do I have the time to spend exercising a large/energetic breed? Do I have the time to manage a long hair coat? Do I have allergies to long haired animals? Some people do because of them shedding so you may want to look into a nonshedding or very low shedding one. Will the animal play well with children? Will the breed that I am thinking of obtaining be prone to more medical problems? All of these come into play because you will be spending time with your pet and caring for your pet. At http://justdogbreeds.com they have an excellent source of knowledge for over 150 different breeds so you can get an idea of what the breeds are like as well as some general information about all breeds and how to choose which is right for you.

  2. I agree that people should look into the types of breeds before getting one. I think some people just seem to think the only thing diff. about dogs is how they look, and that the personality is how they were raised. People would be surprised to see how much the breed affects the dogs personality.

  4. Small dog breeds are definitely the best. OK, perhaps I’m a little biased.
