Lately I’ve been having a few incidents with some creepy critters and if I had enough of a brain I might take a snapshot of them before I actually go into the “get rid of it” mode.
Last weekend I let the dogs out and looked to some pine trees and thought to myself why is there pine straw floating in the air. I get closer and realize its a spider web about 1.5 – 2 feet wide strung between two pine trees. I’m like okay whatever, pick up a few sticks on the ground to disperse of it when I see this huge ass spider in the middle of it. It was bright orange, white and brown. Oh shit! So I go into the house to get the 409 and broom. 409 kills all the other bugs why not this one…boy was I wrong. It didn’t even phase it. Okay, find some bigger sticks to toss at the spider web and break it up. The spider crawls to the tree, so I grab my broom and whack it to bits. The ants have a meal yippy.
Today, I open up the back door to let the dogs out and a snake comes in. What the fuck?!? It was a brown and black colored snake and I grab my handy broom to try to get it back out the door. No such luck, it crawls behind the dogs kennel in the kitchen. Okay, I go out my front door to see if anybodies home…nobody who would do anything about it. Back inside to deal it a swift exit. Open up the storm door and start moving crap out of the way and pull the kennel to the center of the kitchen. It’s hiding in the corner. I use the broom to move it towards the door and then pretty much hold it by the broom while moving it towards the door and let it go and it lifts up a little bit and I scoot it out the door. Then I wanted to try to kill it but those suckers are fast and cling to the side of the house so it slithered down the side of the porch and around the corner in between the AC unit and off to the neighbors yard. Well it’s out my yard now, so I call the neighbor and tell her to look out. Not my issue anymore :/
During the week I was bombarded with more ants coming in from a crack in the window seal because I still haven’t fixed that which is getting done today now. Wonder what else I’m gonna have to deal with :/

Did you realize that snakes and spiders eat bugs, like ants? Just a thought… I try to avoid killing them unless I can’t convince them not to live inside my home.

Well I didnt’ kill the snake it ran off. That big ole spider had to go. I let the littler ones live. It was poisonous anyways and I didn’t need it biting the dogs. One of them has a habit of going after anything that moves to try to eat it.
I missed the bit about it being poisonous. I don’t mind poisonous snakes, but they can’t be living anywhere where the population density is too high — it’s just too risky. All the snakes I run into around my house are the little harmless ones like grass snakes. I still love my spiders, though, for killing so many mosquitos and such.
I am so not a bug person. To the point where I can’t even work up the nerve to kill them. If I find any type of bug in the apartment, I have to have Scott kill them. I think you are very brave for killing them yourself.
