Cleaning Spree

Well, since the last tetra fish died I was not planning on putting anymore fish in the 30 gallon tank. Honestly I was getting annoyed with the sound the Whisper filter was making because the entire thing needed replacing it was getting so old. Well I just chucked it in the garbage last night when I was tirelessly filling gallon containers to empty them in the sink. Then to clean all the other things and empty it out completely. The rocks are still in a big colander that I need to transfer into some freezer bags to pack away with the rest of the stuff in the box underneath it.

Now, I thoroughly cleaned it out. I was thinking about getting a hamster to put in there but I wonder about how cold the little critter might get because it stays fairly cold downstairs. There is the light that goes with the fish tank but I can’t run that constantly. I may just see how the temperature fares while it sits there with no water because the temperature gauges are still on the outside of the thing. Aww well, something to thing about while I enjoy my silence now.

Yay for hamsters! My room is kinda on the cold side and they seem fine. They just make little nests! Sometimes I do feel that it’s a little too cold but so far so good! :start:

What about putting a little piece of a blanket in there? Do you do that?

Well, I line the bottom of the cages with newspaper, then I add the shavings and I give them bedding as well that they use to make a little nest. Plus they all have boxes of some sort to sleep in. :D

I don’t know if this applies to hamsters or not, but when I had my rats they recommended adding a wire cage on top of the aquarium for more air circulation. Since their pee has so much ammonia in it- they need more air.

If you put a hamster in there won’t it drown?
