Two Weeks Off

Monday, August 22nd, 2011 | Personal, Technology with 1 Comment

Last semester ended two weeks ago. Classes started back today. Just from looking at the schedule I’m going to be scarce even more so than usual. At least the software is updated to using Windows 7 this time around. Last semester they were still having me fix Windows Vista which I don’t even own. That’s the second worst operating system Microsoft has put out. ME was the worst. I’m on Windows 7 Ultimate now for some time. It’s even a legit version this time around. 😀

Financial aid effed up my account again this semester and good thing I went there first before going to the bookstore because it would have been a waste of time and still essentially was. I sat and waited in line for 2 hours for about 2 minutes of an answer. To the dude: I would like to make sure I have money allotted for my books this semester and next. Dude goes on his little computer and says: Your tuition is going through now you can pick up your books on Monday. Me on the way out the door: WTF? I was actually going to start reading some of the chapters to get ahead but noooo. I go pick my books up today – money is there – YEAH – 1 book not in – BOO. Now I have to call everyday until it does come in so I can pick it up and it has come in by September 2nd or else I cannot use my financial aid anymore. Of course that would be 2 weeks INTO classes already so really, hows that going to play out when assignments are due next week? Ugh :uhh:

I have one professor I remember from one of my other courses. You should read her syllabus – TONS of spelling errors and such. I don’t understand how this got put out there. Drives me batty. She loves using a lot of weird symbols too as well as fonts.

Guess I need to download and import my calendars from the classes to my personal calendar and actually keep up with it this semester lol Just wish my calendar would sync properly with my phone since I don’t open my laptop every damn day. *sigh*

Edited to add: Good grief – I just exported my calendars and the crazy professor never bothered to change the dates on the assignment schedule so it is all back from spring of 2009!! WTF?

FYI: Song I can’t get enough of these days Bruno Mars – Marry You – listen to it, snappy little beat.

One More Year

Friday, March 25th, 2011 | General, Technology with Comments Off on One More Year

Just one more year and by next spring I should have my degree in hand. Honestly, the only way that that is possible is due to the fact that I can take online college courses. Having accredited online schools is probably the deciding factor for more people than we realize. Due to the hours I keep there is no way I have time to physically show up for classes much less be able to get all of my classes in the evening to begin with. I’d never have a life, not that I don’t have much of one now, but it will pay off in the long run once I get a better job and have a more stress free life. Plus with a lot of people being laid off from work this is the best opportunity to get back in school and obtain a degree because once you start applying for jobs they might pick people who have a degree instead of you.

The best thing about these online courses is that you can be accepted to essentially any college around the country and still obtain the same education for whatever degree you are pursuing. I happened to be lucky enough this and last semester to obtain a pell grant. The first couple years I was paying out of my pocket when I could because I refuse to get a student loan. I have already been approved for a pell grant this coming fall and spring too so that is a load off of my mind. Now I just have to buckle down and get things finished. I’ve been missing deadlines this semester for whatever reason. I’m so used to all assignments being turned in on Sundays and this one class requires assignments to be turned in on Fridays. I only have a month left so hopefully I can get my act together fast lol I did turn in all the assignments and just have left the second part to a project I think but that’s not due until the end of April I know for sure.

What a Day

Friday, March 11th, 2011 | Animals, Personal, Technology with Comments Off on What a Day

Well my day actually sort of ended around 2 AM as I finally painted the kitchen. The only room not painted now is my bedroom and I’m thinking it ain’t gonna get done for years to come lol I still have the trim to do on the stairs and the hallway trim upstairs and the bathroom trim actually since I never did it when I painted that room. Then I’ll be done with the painting for some time. I then had to get up at 7 AM because a friend was dropping off her 2 dogs for me to watch as she goes to Disney with her kids. Little did I know one of them was a 7 month old puppy. I knew she had 2 but I hadn’t been over to her place since she got the new dog so I was a little surprised to say the least lol. As any animal person knows it is nothing but excitement for this little guy and he’s one of those piddlers when he gets excited kind too :uhh: So ya, this will be interesting. At least it really won’t matter for the living room carpet since I’m going to rip it out and replace it with vinyl anyways. She was late dropping them off though. Should have known really because she’s late for everything.

Since I was off I had scheduled my cable company to stop over to give me my digital box and swap my internet outlet to my room. I don’t know why I couldn’t pick up the box, I can hook it into my TV just as well as that guy did. But then the snafu came when I left and came back and couldn’t get it to work. I had to call them up to get it figured out. Apparently you have to use THEIR remote to shut off the TV and turn it back on for it to catch the TV and cable box because the box turns off when the TV goes off. That’s messed up because on my way out in the morning I push the button on the TV because the TV’s right next to the door.

Then I also had the plumber to come by to see if he could do something with the fiasco of a tub I have. I tell you the mickey mouse job on this is horrendous. Never get your friends to fix things like this owner did. It just goes bad. I can’t clean this shit because the silicon comes off when I scrub it. I bought new handles the other day since the guy was coming and I have to go back out to get another set because for some stupid reason they decided to change some of the stems and the cold water stem is larger than the other 2 so the knob doesn’t fit that one. Idiots. As you can tell they actually used a butter lid to do that redneck fix. :nono: In the end I didn’t get him to fix it because he gave me a quote of around $200 and I wasn’t willing to shell that out. I was willing to do under $100 just to get it fixed. Now I’m going to have to beg to get it fixed like everything else around here.

Then I trekked my 2 dogs down to the vet to get their nails cut because I can’t grind one of them because she refuses to sit still for it so it’s the old fashioned clipping with the nail cutter. Pepper gets the nail cutter and then the grinder because hers grow so fast. She’s had her nails quicked like 3-4 times when she’s has surgery to remove lipomas. She actually could do for another round but I’m not going to do it because she’s getting older. She’s due for her annual exam this month I found out as well as Stormy so I’ll get that done in the next 2 weeks and make them draw some blood on Pepper to make sure her innards are doing okay. She had a semi elevated liver panel last time.

Move it with Playstation

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PlayStation MOVE. All opinions are 100% mine.

You know I haven’t played a full fledged gaming system since the game Sonic the Hedgehog came out and I didn’t even own that either, my parents did. I just played it. Do they even make that anymore? I also loved the Mario games. I completed a few of them when I did play them. I still own one of the handheld games from way back when but I haven’t a clue what brand it is. I only kept it because I liked playing Tetris.

I like the simple minded games or is it mind thinking games. Those games where you are playing with other people throughout worlds is just beyond me. I can only think it is my age but then there are people who are older than me that play those so that doesn’t really hold true. The new system on the market is the Playstation Move. If you already own a Playstation 3 you can bring the motion gaming home for only $99 with the MOVE bundle package. Now that my cars paid for maybe I can spring for one of these as my own Christmas gift. Most of the games are a bit weird to me but the Brunswick Pro Bowling would be a must since I love bowling but haven’t been on a league since I was banned that one year. I would also definitely get Tron. I remember that movie back in the 80s and the simple game that came out too. The new versions of both the movie and the game should be beyond what I am expecting.

I’ve always been one of those people who must win and to this day it still irritates me when I lose. It’s definitely something I need to work on. Since I live by myself I would only be irritating myself when I don’t think I have a high enough score that I should have gotten, especially with the bowling. Man, that’s something a shrink could have a field day with I’m betting.

TiVo Please

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 | Technology with Comments Off on TiVo Please

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of TiVo. All opinions are 100% mine.

Most everybody I know has either DVRs or TiVos while I still bust out the VHS to tape 1 show at a time if need be although I haven’t done that in years because A. I never got around to watching the episode and B. the VHS is broken now but still plugged in because it would be too much work to undo it from the set up I have currently with the cable, DVD player, etc. It’s jacked up to say the least and I don’t even have a cable box. Just plain ole standard cable.

I’m way excited about the Fall TV line up but what ticks me off about the whole thing right now is that I won’t be able to catch most of the shows. Either they are on at the same time so I have to pick which one to watch for the entire season because I do not like watching one show one week and another show another week; or I just don’t have time because I am back in school again and slammed with homework since it pretty much all is homework since I do not physically go to class. They are all online classes. I was interested in checking out Hawaii Five-0, Undercovers, and The Defenders. Then my old favorites of course being Fringe and NCIS. I’m just glad the USA network and TNT has their new shows on the off season so they do not compete because I’d never catch up.

TiVo’s having a contest for a new TiVo Slide to be sure to Enter to Win by today, September 22, 2010. Today is the deadline people. And if you win make sure you send that to me pronto! You can also be a friend on their Facebook Fan Page too so you can keep up with anything and everything related to TiVo.

Smartphones are our Life

Monday, August 23rd, 2010 | Technology with Comments Off on Smartphones are our Life

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boost Mobile. All opinions are 100% mine.

How many of you have a smartphone? Raise them hands because I can only imagine like maybe 5% do not. You have the Androids, the iPhones, and the Blackberries for the most part that everybody knows about and/or owns. I, myself, own a Blackberry 9700 and love it to death.

The problem most of us have is trying to find the best coverage, price, and amount of options we can get for the least amount of money. Having no contract is a bonus as well if you can find one. Re-Boost is one of the companies that let you have cell service without a contract. You know what else? Their blackberry plan is even cheaper than my plan as well as all the other companies that are in my area that I know of. The plan is only $60/month. You can pay by debit/credit card, in person, or by phone. If you like doing the automatic payments that is an option as well.

Using Boost Mobile gives you the freedom of using all the social networks and internet without worry of going over in data usage. You have seen how the companies are now having set plans each month. Not good in my opinion. I was lucky enough to get in on the unlimited before these started up. I receive all my RSS feeds on my phone, leave UberTwitter on 24/7 posting and reading, all my emails and surfing. Not to mention when I listen to Pandora. That’s a lot of data usage. Last month I had about 1000 SMS texts too and with football season starting up it will only become more as I get text messages during my Eagles matches because I cannot get the NFL network.

It pays to shop around and find the best coverage and plans you can find for the least amount of money. If a contract is an issue Boost Mobile is an option.
