Stormys Lost Weight

Friday, July 9th, 2010 | Animals with Comments Off

Every now and then I check both the dogs collars to make sure they are not too tight or too loose depending on if they gain or lose weight. Now Stormy is overweight but recently her collar has been really loose which makes me think she’s losing too much weight too fast. Oddly enough when I checked Pepper’s collar hers was a little too tight. And I’m like what’s going on. Pepper is getting up there in age as she is 12 this year so this didn’t go over to well in my mind. She had some blood work drawn when she had her last surgery which I believe makes it about 4 or 5 surgeries now for either lipoma removal and/or her nails being quicked because they grow so freaking fast.

After a while I got to thinking about when I had them in puppy jail (ie the kennel) for when I was in Tennessee for our kidney camp. They immediately take their collars off when I drop them off and place cheap paper collars on with their names until I come back to pick them up. I figure they must have mixed them up when they put them back on the dogs right before I picked them up. Both of their ID tags fell off because the metal got rubbed away and both of their collars happen to be blue. Go figure.

All this makes me wonder though if I shouldn’t just get them both back in to see the vet to have them checked out just in case they weren’t mixed up. More money out of my pocket that I don’t have at the moment obviously and they both are healthy. Sometimes I wish pet insurance is comparable to our health insurance in price and what they pay for because it might be worth obtaining. Searching around to compare pet insurance might be worth my while. If I could find one that includes puppy jail even better. That’s at least a one time a year deal although if it were cheaper maybe more. Homeowners could use this for the liability part of it should an accident happen at the house. Think about it.

Hawaii was Exempt

Saturday, February 13th, 2010 | Animals, Nature with 1 Comment

Hows that for ya USA? Every single state has gotten snow this year now except for Hawaii. Lucky lil SOBs. People down south can’t drive in snow. Hell, they can’t drive in rain but tack on cold weather, freezing ice on the roads and snow? Wooo boy look out. I read the paper this morning and there were between 60-80 accidents in a 12 hour period.

At least I didn’t lose power for any length of time. It did cut off/on about 5-6 times though. There is still some 40,000 odd homes without power. Of course the trees couldn’t keep attached with the snow and came crashing down. Heck, even some of the power lines didn’t have enough strength to stay up. I did get a few pictures though. Enjoy.

This was the very beginning of the snow. I had just left the gym from a class and was welcomed to that. I knew I still had to get to the store to get some stuff for the weekend since it was a long weekend for me. I needed to get stuff for the crockpot so I could munch on that all weekend and not leave my house. So far so good. Haven’t left at all today lol

This was taken at night before I refused to go back outside and look at the damage. You can see some flakes float on down in front of the lens as I took the picture. I needed a comparison for when I took snapshots in the morning obviously. Can’t really get a good feel of the depth because of the darkness but that’s all I had. By then the dogs weren’t too thrilled about having to walk through it much less pee or poo on top of it.

These few I snagged this morning. Obviously there is much more snow on the car than there was last night. Just now watching the news and they said we had upwards to 8 inches of snow overnight. Lucky me. I know my yard didn’t get quite that much but somewhere in town did. The walkway was covered last night though and thawed pretty fast in the morning.

Snapshot of a side view of the front of the house with some bushes. At least they are still standing.

Here are some shots of the backyard with one of the dogs out there. She didn’t like it much when the wind was kicking up and spitting some of the snow off of the tree limbs onto her. She kept hopping around and freaking out sort of and then ran to the door to be let in lol

This is the view of my next door neighbors backyard. She looks like she got more snow in her backyard than mine and as of now, most of it is still there too. There is a huge tree limb down in my other neighbors yard from the pine tree. Other than that, just watching me some Olympic games.

Find the Puppy

stormycold So last night I finally broke down and kicked in the heat, or rather early this morning. It got effin cold. As you can tell, Stormy thought so too. I took that while I was huddled up in my bed. Yep, I have a recliner in my bedroom because it won’t fit in the living room. If you don’t recall, I have this enormous sectional which I do NOT recommend anyone buying.

Pepper was under a towel as well but on her pillow on the floor. I didn’t feel like leaning over out of the covers to get that snapshot. Yep, the dogs sleep on pillows with a towel over them on the floor. Nice beds eh? There is a real dog bed downstairs in the kitchen where they stay during the day. Well, one dog bed and one crate that is left open with blankets in it. They fight over the dog bed though, dunno why.

Adopt a Pet

Friday, October 16th, 2009 | Animals with 2 Comments

I’ve been torturing myself lately by looking on the ASPCA websites locally for my next pet which is an all white cat. I had an all black cat and she died a few years ago and I wasn’t ready for another yet but I am now. The only pet I have ever bought was my cat at one of those pathetic pet stores that were at the mall. It was my cat and another which my mother bought that remained and they were both ill which is probably why we got them because we could see it. I prefer to adopt a pet because no animal should be a throwaway which is how I view most of them. I saved one of my dogs from being in a garage sale and the other one was from a storm drain.

Every now and then I’ll find a larger database of animals to look through to torture myself even more because I have a personal 2 pet rule in my place and will not get another one until one passes but who can help not wanting another pet after seeing some of the photos? Petango.com – Adopt a cat! is another large database that you can search through with just the zip code. I like that and there actually was a white cat close by me that I had no idea about because it is not at the SPCA. It is at a Pethelpers site. Instead of buying pets from puppy mills try Petango to adopt one.

Wildlife in my Backyard

Monday, September 14th, 2009 | Animals, Nature with Comments Off

So this past weekend was rough. I blame myself. I went out Friday and Saturday night and helped paint the YMCA Saturday morning and afternoon. Sunday I was doing some clothes and went to work out and then watch a buttload of football although I fell asleep during my Eagles game :/ I’m a horrible fan lol I missed McNabb’s rib injury too. Miami made me lose my football pool this week too.

Anywhoo, Stormy was barking in the backyard and I got up to see what it was because normally it is usually a dog walking by but this was taking too long. I see an orange tabby in my yard all puffed up while she was standing there barking. It was like a face off. Pepper was inside with me when I saw this through the screen door. I opened the door and said Pepper get the cat so she hauled butt to the cat who proceeded to hop on top of the fence and then try to take some swipes at Pepper’s nose all the while trying to stay on top. I then proceeded to walk to the back of the yard and the cat jumps on the nearest tree and starts climbing. Worked for me.

Then around 10:30 last night I let the dogs out and Stormy is barking again. This time I go out to see what it is immediately. Figured the cat was back and she had it cornered this time. Nope, I saw something run pretty fast with a thick hairless tail and pretty big. I tell Stormy to leave it but she grabbed it and I know injured it somehow because she was still spitting fur out when I got her inside. I was like it is either a big ass rat or a possum so I bring the dogs in, put some shoes on and grab a flashlight to go back out. Shine the light in the vicinity and it is a possum still in the same spot. Must’ve been in shock for all I know. This morning though it was gone, lucky for it because the dogs did not forget about it over night and ran immediately to the spot where it was.

I Need Effin Earmuffs

I swear if I could ram my elbow into the dogs side at night like I used to do with an ex to get her to stop snoring I would. And what kills me is she is already laying on her side. I hear this all night long these days. Yes it is due to her being overweight but she is on weight loss food and has been for some time. Heck they both eat it because I can’t have one eating out of one bowl and the other not. It just doesn’t work. She will finally stop snoring around 4-5 AM but by then I usually give up trying to get any sleep and wait for the alarm clock to go off.

In other news, I’m still looking for a part time job. Went and applied at a Bingo place yesterday. That could be fun if I can get in and I might end up playing a few hands to boot too lol

Football in T-14 minutes. Got my picks all set up for this weekend. Eagles play the Panthers and we should get that on TV this weekend and we better beat the crap out of the Panthers too.
