BP Solar Decathlon

As of late, I have been reading about alternative sources for energy and how much money we can all save as well as how much we can all help nature. I have read news stories about windmills, solar panels, etc. I did not, however, read about the BP Solar Decathlon. BP is partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy as sponsors for this. It is held every year and brings 20 universities from around the world to design, build, and operate a livable, energy-efficient house completely solar powered. This is a week long competition at the National Mall in Washington, DC from October 11-19, 2007.

Can you imagine if we could all have a clean energy alternative? BP has been involved with this competition since it started in 2002. They happen to be the only energy company sponsoring this year as well. You can check up on all the happenings about the competition on the BP blog. They will have an on-site reporter to write posts throughout the competition at BP Solar Decathlon blog.

If you are curious at how you are doing with this you can check out The Greencurve which asks you questions about saving energy throughout your house and then will help you do better. I think the thing that killed me the most was my driving and how often I do it. Getting a hybrid car would be ideal but are too costly for me at the present time. We all need to be more proactive to help save our world from ourselves.

  1. It’s really cool that BP sponsors that sort of thing. I don’t usually think of big oil companies as being green, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

  3. Wow, I think I have seen a topic like this before. Seems to be very popular these days. I also try to save energy by using energy efficient lamps and stuff but I’m not sure if it really makes a difference :/
But I think it would be nice to live in an energy plus house. At least I would like to know how it feels like
