Let’s face it, you cannot go anywhere these days without either having a cell phone or know somebody who does. And sure at the beginning regular cell phones cut the mustard but not anymore. Everybody wants more functions and be able to get online at a decent speed to chat, email, whatever. The Blackberry smartphone is the newest phone that has all the bells and whistles. A lot of our physicians carry these around because it is a multipurpose phone. I call em crackberries because they just cannot live without them. If it is gone for even a few minutes they are freaking out that they have lost it and it had their whole lives on there. It is a phone people, they are replaceable if need be.
If it wasn’t for the fact that they were so big I might just buy myself one too but then I have to think, I can do just about all of that on my current phone which is small so why buy that just to get the feel of windows? Some people swear by them though. Can’t fault them, they just haven’t broadened their horizons yet to other options.
I’ll give them credit though they have some useful functions that probably will end up being standard on most phones soon enough which include
Several email accounts on the one phone including work and home.
Open and edit attachments such as Excel and Word.
Full keyboard instead of pushing numbers to get the letters you want to use.
Surfing way faster than the dinky internet I have now on my phone but it works!
Easier ways of transferring data back and forth to your pc. I remember trying to get something off my phone when my emailing capabilities were down, took forever and had to use a palm, and a pc to get it using bluetooth.
So overall, it is a great choice for the business people but for the regular peoples I’m not so sure. It might be just a bit bloated for their tastes and I could almost bet some of them wouldn’t know the first thing on how to use it. Of course that’s not really saying much because I know a physician here who has one and he is computer illiterate beyond checking emails but since the phone has all the gadgets, he of course, had to buy it.
