The things I heard this year were insane. I had no idea what was going on last year. Every year there is a batch of interns, a huge batch. They are there to play with the kids in the activities and color war games. Once bedtime hits, they usually go to a counselors meeting and then supposedly back to bed. Well, not last year which prompted a change in the management of them this year. Last year after the counselor meetings they would go out to the bonfire place which is next to the pool and drink beer and woop it up until all hours of the morning and some of them even were having sex in the woods outside the cabins. One of the counselors in my cabin this year said she heard some of them having sex last year and the one girl in her cabin was always hungover the next morning and would not get up on time. This is a kids camp y’all. I understand now why there was a limited amount of interns and why they were actually a great group to work with. New person with new rules they must abide by or you were out.
This years camp theme was masquerade ball. As seen by some of the pictures strewn throughout this post you can see they did a fantastic job and the kids were thrilled about it all and had a great time as usual. Of course this year seemed to have more problems with the children though, especially in the group I had going with me. Teenagers can drive you mad and their temperment and hormones are insane. Usually it takes at least a day or two for everyone to get to know everyone else as the groups come from all over the country. this year, however, it seemed they knew each other from day one and some of them did as they are repeat customers to the camp. So let’s try to break this down from beginning to end.
First, the schedule, I was bringing a little girl named Peyton but the camp powers that be must have thought Peyton Manning and placed her in the boys cabin. Rectified before camp even began. Then comes camp time. One of the teenage girls in my cabin was caught behind the mess hall where no camper is allowed with another boy. Then, these same two campers snuck out of their respective cabins to meet up in the middle of the night. Another night, one of the teenage boys I brought was taling with one of the girls, not really sure if they were flirting or what but she ended up dumping juice on his head. Well, obviously he did not take that well and took a chair and flung it against the wall and then started cursing up a storm. He was sent back to his cabin and once they found out who the girl was she was too as well as helping in the mess hall the next day for punishment and possibly not being able to come back to camp next year. Still not sure on that issue but my camper is not. This was already his second chance at coming back from a few years prior and the antics he did then.
Finally past all that Thursday night rolls around and apparently there is another party at the Orioles cabin (they name the cabins either bird names or tree names) which was my cabin. Half the girls in there were the same as last year and in the same cabin. There was also a party at the Orioles last year. I fell asleep during the middle of it because I was exhausted lol. This year, however, it was broken up by many, many counselors. The announcement of the party was being mentioned all day long and even some of the counselors who run the joint heard about it. What was funny was that I left 2 counselors in the cabin with the “party” while I went to the counselor meeting when we heard over the walkie-talkie that a Jackson was at the Orioles party who happened to be the son of the person that heads over the camp. He goes, seriously? And sure enough it was true lol. I knew who was doing night watch to check in on the cabins to make sure all the kids were in there and told her to bang on our door and yell fire marshall
All kids were thought to be safely back in their respective cabins.
I got back into my cabin about 11:45 PM and one of the other counselors in our cabin came in about 10 minutes after me. She asked me if I heard someone yelling on the bull horn that all campers must return to their respective cabins – which I had not. Apparently, 2 of my boy campers, one of which was in the incident previously in the week, and another one snuck out of their cabins as well as 2 boy campers from another cabin and were wondering the grounds. They were nailed but for about about hour after that I could hear golf carts going up and down the trails making sure no one else was out.
Friday morning leaving. We needed to leave by 8 – 8:30 AM to make our 10:45 AM flight back home. We were still waiting around just past 9 AM. For whatever reason they thought our flight left at 1:40 PM which was actually the flight time we arrived in Atlanta going to camp on the Saturday before. We barely made it but we did and that’s all that matters. Got home at 4 PM, picked up my puppies from puppy jail, grabbed something to eat and passed out.
Now, this morning I have the AT&T guys installing my internet and U-Verse. Why I scheduled it right after I got back from camp I will never know but here they are and I’m still tired lol. I still have to mow the grass, and move my desk back into the extra bedroom as I am having the dude hook the cable up in there again. I am going to separate my desk to move it back in there.
