As our parents and other relatives get older, some might wonder if it will be a graceful period with traveling and living life to its fullest. Others might wonder if they will develop Alzheimer’s as previous family members have developed it. It is prevalent in my family and there is a good chance any of us could develop this disease. One of the most commonly known issues regarding this disease is memory loss. But how do you know if it is due to the disease or just a lack of remembering?
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of American has a national memory screening day on November 13, 2007 to promote early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses. By going to the national memory screening website, you can search by state for a screening site where you can also sign up for. By catching this disease early can prolong the quality of their lives as well as getting on the appropriate medications to help abate the disease. And remember, having regularly scheduled visits to your physician could also help detect this early enough as well as keeping your brain active with puzzles, reading, etc to stimulate your mind. Even playing games with friends could help as well by playing cards or games too.
