Zacapa Aged Rum

ZacapaOnce upon a time I used to be a rum connoisseur in my own world. I tried a lot of rum when I was in that mood but swapped to whiskey. I honestly have never heard of Zacapa premium rum before and think I may need to go back to the rum. For the premium dark rum they must have that smooth sweetness with a bit of bite from the spices. You really should try them first to understand the underlying taste before pairing it with anything. Of course always ask your bartender as well because they usually try everything that comes in and can help you pair it properly.

Zacapa rum is made in Guatemala in 1976. The sugar cane used for Zacapa is grown in the volcanic soil which I find interesting. Zacapa only uses the first concentrated press of sugar cane. Once the rum is made, it is moved to the Quetzaltenango highlands, 2,300 meters above sea level, where it is aged slowly. Zacapa rum passes through several casks that previously housed American whiskey, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez wines. Passing through all those casks can only enhance the flavor if you ask me. I always love hearing about how each company makes their product. I am for sure going to be going to my local bar to find this because if it is anywhere here it would be at the one I frequent and will definitely report back to the fine folks reading. Many Options to be Had

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Net10 for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

You know I recently obtained my passport again so I can travel the world. Of course I won't be going back to Germany so long as I can help it because I have had enough of that place from being stationed there. I am going to be going to the Bahamas for my Christmas and New Years Holidays. With that being my options for my cell phone service are to obtain an international plan from my current provider or use a local prepaid or pay as you go plans since I always unlock all of my phones. This is why we need more options for cell phone companies.

This could also be said for the travelers coming over here from Europe or where ever. They could chose to be a Real NET10 customer and use one of the pay as you go plans so they will still be able to have access while over here and not incur an exorbitant amount of fees calling local people here. There is also an international plan for Canada and Mexico if they chose to visit one of those fine countries as well. I actually know a married couple where one is here in the states and one is in Canada right now for work so this would be ideal for them. The bonus with having no contracts means they could shut it off when they are ready to go back home. Right now there is a Cute NET10 commercial that gives you some more information about their packages. With the unlimited plan you get talk, text, and web for $50/month. NET10 is also on Twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/Net10_Wireless if you have any questions or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/NET10Wireless .

Shake, Rattle, and Rinse

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 | Nature with 2 Comments

My oh my what a week so far for mother nature. Virginia had a 5.8 earthquake but we feel those things all up and down the east coast because we have solid rock on this end of the country. I actually live about a mile from a major fault line. The big one hit here back in 1896 on August 31st. It demolished Charleston.

Now at the beginning of the week we were thinking that Hurricane Irene was going to nail us right smack dab on the temple but the track keeps pushing further and further away which is okay by me either way. I’ve lived through Hugo. I know what to expect. My immediate concerns right now are that the compact fridge I bought for my office went out yesterday. I have no where to put my lunch. To pay for food here is waaayyyy expensive. I expect normal operating hours for the rest of the week and next. Might have a couple hours without power if we get strong enough winds but that is it.

So let’s recap in washing machine terms. We’ve already been through the shake and rattle. We are now heading towards the rinse cycle. One of my good friends via Twitter made that post and it was so right on. Check him out at @lowcountrywolf

Two Weeks Off

Monday, August 22nd, 2011 | Personal, Technology with 1 Comment

Last semester ended two weeks ago. Classes started back today. Just from looking at the schedule I’m going to be scarce even more so than usual. At least the software is updated to using Windows 7 this time around. Last semester they were still having me fix Windows Vista which I don’t even own. That’s the second worst operating system Microsoft has put out. ME was the worst. I’m on Windows 7 Ultimate now for some time. It’s even a legit version this time around.

Financial aid effed up my account again this semester and good thing I went there first before going to the bookstore because it would have been a waste of time and still essentially was. I sat and waited in line for 2 hours for about 2 minutes of an answer. To the dude: I would like to make sure I have money allotted for my books this semester and next. Dude goes on his little computer and says: Your tuition is going through now you can pick up your books on Monday. Me on the way out the door: WTF? I was actually going to start reading some of the chapters to get ahead but noooo. I go pick my books up today – money is there – YEAH – 1 book not in – BOO. Now I have to call everyday until it does come in so I can pick it up and it has come in by September 2nd or else I cannot use my financial aid anymore. Of course that would be 2 weeks INTO classes already so really, hows that going to play out when assignments are due next week? Ugh :uhh:

I have one professor I remember from one of my other courses. You should read her syllabus – TONS of spelling errors and such. I don’t understand how this got put out there. Drives me batty. She loves using a lot of weird symbols too as well as fonts.

Guess I need to download and import my calendars from the classes to my personal calendar and actually keep up with it this semester lol Just wish my calendar would sync properly with my phone since I don’t open my laptop every damn day. *sigh*

Edited to add: Good grief – I just exported my calendars and the crazy professor never bothered to change the dates on the assignment schedule so it is all back from spring of 2009!! WTF?

FYI: Song I can’t get enough of these days Bruno Mars – Marry You – listen to it, snappy little beat.

Hurricane Irene is a Coming

Maybe that black water chestnut tree will take a dive away from my place because the bottom half is hollow from the termites eating it all.

Cell Phone Companies

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Why is it that when the new phones come out the cell phone companies try to ream you for every penny you have? I have been waiting FOREVER for the new Blackberry phones to come out and my carrier is slow in testing and approving them for our use. I haven't been locked into a contract for some time and honestly I'm beginning to wonder what else is out there so I do not have to pay this high price every month. Now I can guess on average what I use every month for minutes, data, and texts.

Straight Talk has everything you need but at an affordable price for the heavy users which is $30/month. I never go over 1000 minutes. I can come close and sometimes go over 1000 texts but I could keep track of that. The data definitely would be an issue though capped out at 30 MB. Have no fear though there is an unlimited plan for $45/month which would cut my bill in half. I could call a friend and not have to worry about how long I am on the phone and play scrabble without fear of going over on the data usage. Huge scrabble fan here. I'm also a fan of hitting up 411 but not at the $1.50 price I currently pay so I'm thrilled to see that is included for free. I'm sure someones mom knows best but I'd have to tell mine this is a good deal for her to jump at it. Lord knows she's trying to save money right now.
