Four Foods on Friday #120

Time to learn more food facts according to me. If you are not interested you can move along. As always be sure to check out Fun Craft and Recipes to join each week and to spread the news so others might join as well.

Name four food oddities that you have.

1. I despise melted cheese on just about anything including hamburgers, broccoli, etc. I do love cheese though.
2. When eating fruit such as grapes, plums, and peaches they must NOT be mushy or I won’t eat them.
3. I do not like ripe bananas and prefer mine green.
4. I don’t like wine or beer. Shocker I know.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

I have been waiting for this movie to come out since I first saw the trailers early on. I love Nicholas Cage and this movie was right up my alley dealing with magical stuff. I also happen to know that Nicholas Cage has an interest in all of that as well.

So the premise is that Merlin had 3 apprentices, one of whom was Cage. Merlin was killed by an evil witch with the help of one of his other apprentices. The lady apprentice took in the soul of the evil witch and then Cage captured them in one of those little doll things that start out small and get bigger and bigger. I can’t remember the name of them at the moment but I had some when I was growing up. He then captured the evil apprentice. Upon Merlin’s death he gave his ring to Cage to find the relative that has the power to kill the evil witch. He was given the gift of immortality until he found this person which happened to be a geek in the modern world in NYC. Go figure.

Once the child was found he ended up fighting with the evil apprentice and got trapped in this antique for 10 years because of the curse on it and then began to start teaching the college kid what he needs to know to kill the evil witch. In the end she dies he lives we all win.

It is a must see peoples. Well worth the time to go see it with family too.

Time Escapes Me

You know I can only remember ever owning about 3-4 watches. I prefer the mens watches to the ladies because of the bigger face and the fact that I can get the chronograph watches to my liking, not to mention water resistant to a pretty deep depth should the need arise. So long as the chronograph watch has military time, the date and actual day I’m good. You’d be surprised how time escapes you while you are working at the hospital. If you happen to be on a nights doing a long stretch they all sort of meld together after a while.

This particular dolce and gabbana watch pictured above has a couple of the features I like but not quite all of them. I also like the metal bands and thick faces because I wear my watch face on the underside of my arm, and the metal bands because the leather ones just do not cut it for me. I end up ripping them because I’ll get the watch snagged on something because I can never get the bands small enough even with taking out links because I have such small wrists. I do like them somewhat loose so it ends up being okay in the long run.

I think this Christmas I’m going to finally buy another one because I get sick of trying to find a clock where ever I am in the hospital or search for where I dumped my phone underneath some papers. I have one saved in my Amazon wishlist so hopefully it will still be available when the time comes.

1. How do you pronounce manicotti? Men-e-got, man-i-cotti or some other way?
Man-i-cotti – but what it is I have no idea.

2. What do you call the carbonated drink that comes in a bottle? Soda, tonic, pop, fizzy or something else?
Soda. I think the northern peoples are the only ones who call it pop and I remember on the floor one of the nurses asked the child if he wanted a pop and the kid freaked, cringed, and said I didn’t do anything wrong. He thought he was going to get smacked cuz that’s what pop means down here in the south.

3. What do you call a sandwich on a long roll? Sub, grinder, hoagie, hero, po boy or something else?
It’s a sub of course.

4. Do you call it broth, boullion or stock? How do you make chicken stock?
Broth. I buy a box, pull the tab to open the seal and pour

Discounts

I have one of those bundles that include telephone, cable television, and cable internet. Keeps the rates down somewhat having them all from the same place. Well, I mentioned before that I was paying close to $150/month at one point when I saw ads on the TV that they were offering it for $75/month and I immediately called them to figure this out. Since I have been with them since 2001 they cut me a deal and I was getting $85/month with like $15-20 on top of that because I like an unlisted number and have phone insurance in case something happens with the phone. Well, I don’t use the house phone but very rarely. I have been waffling between keeping it and ditching it because I’ve had this number for like 15 or so years. Now if you go down one of the services usually your bill will go up a little bit because you aren’t using all three of them.

I bit the bullet and decided why should I pay for it when I don’t use it. I called them up and started the process and the guy asked why I was cutting that out and I told him because I very rarely use it. He says well what if we give you a discount and that intrigued me so I asked how much. He said $20 off per month for 6 months. I was like okay I’ll take that deal. So now its a base price of $65/month plus the other amount but I’m going to call them back and have the phone insurance taken off because at this point I don’t care if it breaks or not. Then in 6 months I’ll call them back again and get the phone taken off unless they want to give me another discount and/or extend this one.

I just thought of something though, I wonder if I could get the NFL Network this year and maybe use the $20 I’m saving to get that. I have to see if they are going to offer it again first because they weren’t at one point.

Computer Dilemma’s

With school starting up in August and my desktop kaput it could become quite interesting to say the least. I am also hoping that my pell grant application goes through so at least two semesters will be paid for at 3 classes each semester. That is going to be a stretch for me in that I usually do two classes but if the moneys there might as well use it to its fullest potential and 3 classes per semester will cover just about the entire cost with a little left over to buy books. I was hoping there might be enough to rebuild my computer or at least be able to buy a new one using the discount from the hospital as well as Dell coupons. If I have to buy a computer already built I prefer Dell myself because I know their stuff is solidly built as I use one for work. I mean, I have a tablet too but it would be easier to do my work on a desktop.

That being said, buying the parts and building yourself could save you even more money as it is not a name brand computer. You have to be tricky though and find the Savings coupons for each part to get the lowest price. That in and of itself can take some time, time I don’t really have not to mention there is the money issue in that I don’t have enough either, hence the pell grant.

One of my friend recently went back to school as well since that seems to be the thing to do with all of this recession and she used one of the Savings HP coupon codes to get herself a new laptop. I guess to each his/her own when it comes to what to buy. But mind you I’ve, not her, but me, had to fix it because she decided to toss it on the floor and mess up the hard drive, which I ended up having to send back to get a new one. Learning lesson people, these things don’t bounce on floors and return with no side effects.
