So this past weekend was my 20 year high school reunion. It is almost as if I just graduated yesterday. I can’t believe this much time has passed. I already have 1 retirement check in the bank but need to get another to survive when I’m old and decrepit because there won’t be any social security left when I get there.
Well back to the reunion. Since it was our 20th we had 3 fun filled days of activities if you can call it that. Friday night we had our first meet and greet with wine and beer and karaoke if anyone so desired. It was at the Pontiac Hummer Bldg since the manager of that site was a classmate. The class before and after ours was also invited and I have to say I didn’t know any of those people much less remember the people in my class. Now what does that say? I’m not quite sure. I was hoping my best friend from HS was going to show up that night but she didn’t.
Saturday we first met back at the high school and took our class pictures with and without families and 1 with all the girls and 1 with all the guys. The retaining wall at the front of the school has a marsh in front of it and wouldn’t you know it someone lost their shoe down there someone fished out with a golf club. We then got a police escort to Wannamaker Park for family time. I got to chat with a few more people I actually remembered and was surprised at how many of us were actually still living in the area. Two of my classmates are getting married in October too which I thought was great. They had never gone together before and you can never tell what happens in life can you? They were cute together.
Saturday night was the semi formal get to know your classmates past and present sort of thing with past teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, etc. One of the special guests that didn’t make it was our geography/history teacher who I was looking forward to see as was most of the class because he made our lives a living hell lol. Imagine an old man drinking black coffee, eating peanut M&M’s, heavily smoking Camels on his break with a rubber hand he’d toss at you should he deem appropriate. He was an excellent teacher though. He knew his stuff inside and out. I even took another class with him even after experiencing it my freshman year. Then we had a military tribute. Then it was food and drinks and dancing.
Sunday was a tour of the school but I didn’t go to that as the school hasn’t really changed that much. We dealt with small hallways when we went because it was an elementary school first so I can’t imagine those hallways getting any bigger but actually smaller lol
I did look over the list of students though and found out my best friend is actually still in town as well and actually was listed as living in the same house she grew up in. I got her phone number too but haven’t had a chance to call her because I’ve been getting all my stuff together to go to camp tomorrow for a week in TN for our kidney camp, Camp Okawehna.
So what was y’alls 20 year reunions like? Did you go to them? Did you not? And why not?
