Winter in Branson

Thursday, January 14th, 2010 | General with Comments Off

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hiltons of Branson. All opinions are 100% mine.

The cold has reached the deep south and with it the threat of snow. Even with a tiny threat of snow the school system wimped out and pushed back the start of a school day 2 hours last week. Granted people around here can’t drive in the snow but why push back the time of school? I’m sure all the parents were a bit peeved considering that delayed them in getting to work on time as well. That being said my skin has not done well this winter. I am constantly itchy with severe dry skin and my fingertips are always bleeding because they are all crackly and dry no matter how much lotion I put on.

I think it would be time for me to hunt out a weekend getaway like the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel. Why there when they actually have colder weather than I do now and snow? Because they have a health club, pool and spa. Now I know I could use that spa just to sit in there and let my skin soak up the steam.

The Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing will be hosting the 4th annual profession ice sculpting event which would be fun to watch actually. If you remember earlier I had posted a picture of an ice sculpture that was at a fundraising event I was helping out last year. They do amazing work. During the evening I could check out the live entertainment that is offered. For the fisherman in your family there is the Master’s Trout Championship although fishing in winter wouldn’t be my first choice.

Do You Know Your Disney?

We apparently don’t. See while in clinic we have toys, markers, crayons, and coloring sheets for the kids to do while waiting to be seen. Now I have this webpage bookmarked that has just about every known cartoon figure listed so they just tell me what they would like to color and I print it out. Some of them give them back to us to put up on our boards. One such board happens to be right behind me. The movie star conversation was in the morning. In the afternoon myself and a coworker were waiting around so obviously we were looking at the pictures. We saw a couple Cinderella and some Ariel.

We then began this discussion about who Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were. We knew that Snow White was kissed by a prince to wake up and had the 7 dwarfs. But what we couldn’t figure out was if she was the sleeping princess who the heck was Sleeping Beauty and why was she needing a prince to wake her too? Ya, deep conversations here. I’m sure you guys are amused.

Anywhoos, if you haven’t figured it out. Sleeping Beauty had the 3 fairy godmothers and was sent to her depth of sleep from a prick on a spindle. Snow White ate the poisoned apple. Although now I wonder if the apple was poisoned why didn’t she die?

Do you take your Vitamins?

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of VitaDigest. All opinions are 100% mine.

I used to take the Flinstone vitamins when I was growing up but only the red and purple ones because they were cherry and grape. The other ones were nasty. Sometimes I would take a handful of them because they were so tasty and figured there was no harm because they were just vitamins. Well, now I know better but I do not take them. I just can’t get past why I should. I think hospital employees become cynical in the ways of things dealing with your health.

Potentially women should be taking iron due to losses each month. We should be taking vitamins to help keep our bones strong but that’s why I drink milk. For the calcium. I have not hit that elderly level yet but give it time, maybe I’ll change my mind by then and start taking them. Another good vitamin to take would be Omega-3 Fish oil. That will help lower your triglyceride level if it is high. It is the same ingredient in tuna. I actually thought about taking the Omega-3 when I found out mine were high but decided to eat the tuna instead.

If you happen to be on a ketogenic diet which is closely monitored by a physician you must take quite an assortment of vitamins daily to compensate what you are missing in the limited food plan. Buying them on VitaDigest might help in the cost as they offer free shipping on orders over $100. Right now they are offering an exclusive 10% off Coupon with coupon code “izb10jan” through the end of February for you to use. VitaDigest has over 13,000 vitamins, supplements, and other health products as well as being awarded INC5000 for 2009 as top 5000 Fastest growing company. I just wish I had thought of this sort of website earlier because it will only grow.

So what vitamins do you guys take or do you think they are bunk?

What’s that Saying?

Six degrees of something or other? Ever actually wonder what sort of celebrities you are so close you could taste it? We had a slow moment in clinic yesterday and so a couple of the students, resident and myself were watching trailers of new movies that were coming out when my boss got done with a patient and started chatting with us about some of the celebrities related to some of the hospital workers. Here’s the list so far as I know it.

One of our past residents is the brother of Ashley Scott who most recently had a role in Jericho which got canceled. I’m still p-o’ed about that because I liked that series.

One of the pharmacists sister is Dianne Wiest who you might know her more so as the ADA in Law and Order.

Then we have Thomas Gibson whom you will know from Criminal Minds. He was actually found at our local Dock Street Theatre. I believe his sister is a physician at our hospital too but I can’t remember for sure.

So, do you know anybody related to any celebrities?

As Seen on TV

So we had a break in clinic the other day which prompted more talk about this crazy weather. My coworker lives in the house she grew up in which was built in the late 1800s or very early 1900s so obviously it is very drafty. She was wanting something to put under the doors to keep the air from coming in and mentioned that commercial with those weather stripping things. I couldn’t remember the name from the commercial so I just started searching for weather stripping and then finally decided to hit the ACE Hardware site, well, because I figure they have everything. They seem to since every time I go in they have what I need. Sure enough though they happened to have these things which are called twin draft somethings for $9.99.

Well, I decided if they had those I wanted to look up the Snuggies, one for me and 2 for my dogs because I know they make them for dogs now too. I watch TV too you know. And what do you know, they have those as well. I then read a review this morning about how this group tests out those As Seen on TV items and stated that the Snuggies weren’t worth it because they were even more enormous than stated and when you wash them there becomes bald spots on the Snuggies due to cheap whatever it is and that the dryer lint trap overfloweth with fuzz from them which prompts the bald spots. They don’t last apparently. I’m almost heart broken. :o

Well, what else might they have that I need? Mole poison. Of course they do not have that but they did have an experiment that I might try for killing them. Carbon monoxide poisoning. Yep, you heard me right. They have this tube that you connect to your vehicles exhaust pipe and put the other end in a mole tunnel and let her rip. Those moles will be dead within 10 minutes so it says. I passed this tidbit of information on to a friend who said that is very creative but he was going to go all Caddy Shack on his mole to which I told him that would be interesting to see too but I didn’t have a shot gun nor C4 lol
