What’s that Saying?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 | General with Comments Off

When it rains it pours? So I was diligently working on recovering everything back to its original nice format and was making some progress when I get home tonight and what the ef? They reset the server again and I ended up losing the posts I had made earlier in the day and last nights posts. Well I headed straight over to google reader and grabbed what I could and then opened up my nightly database backup for some code in 2 of the posts from yesterday but 1 post from today is fubared until I can get some help with some code. I cannot believe this. I still have yet to hear officially what had happened even though a friend said it was hacked. This just annoys the heck out of me. I pay to keep things up and running and this ain’t working for me because this is pulling money of out my pocket not to mention one of the other sites I have here hosting for a friend called Vermont Country Cottage Soap. So go over there and give it some love as well as order some homemade soaps. I have gotten some of these from her and they are awesome. I still have some tweaking to do but it is functional except for the discounts which you will need to email her to get the discounts in the total because I haven’t figured out how to overcome that issue in the store yet.

College Days

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 | General with Comments Off

With the economy as bad as it is now and everybody and their brother looking for a job, having a college degree is essential and then you better pray you know more than the other person. I am still trying to finish my degree only because I am paying for it out of my pocket because I do not want the loans like some of these people have. I mean take medical school for example, once you graduate you are already in debt hundreds of thousands of dollars. Does not seem right to have to pay that much but what are you going to do?

To help offset the tuition fees and dorm room fees sometimes you have to obtain a part-time job, eat as cheap as you can in the dorm and not go out to movies, dinners, etc. Do you still have to pay the electric bills too in the dorms or is that included in your monthly fees I wonder because that could get expensive too with lights, computers, etc. Sears CampusReady has some good tips and tricks to getting your dorm room feel like home because we all know you will accomplish more if you feel at home. Most importantly to me would include bedding, storage, and furniture to include a desk and chair.

Sears also has CampusReady on Facebook for all you Facebook addicts. You can keep up to date with all those happenings on your phones while you are at Sears shopping for your supplies. You could also shop for your supplies online and just have them shipped which to me sounds like a better option because then you would not have to lug all that stuff with you when you arrive. Another good option is the Sears Reload-able gift card for the parent and the student which can be used at Sears or Kmart. I like this because then checks or money orders will not get lost in the mail or perhaps stolen by other people in the dorm and keeping cash around would just be idiotic The cards can be reloaded online.

Now using the Facebook application you can search for a roommate, use the dorm room designer, and visit the gift center. It is always nice to do a mock up of your dorm room to see what might fit and/or go together. I only wish I could have had the dorm room experience of going to college. I do most of my classes online because I do not have the time to physically show up to class do to work.

Monday Night Bowling

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 | General with Comments Off

Well, after about 3 years from not bowling I was asked to finish out 6 weeks for a friend and I said yes. Now mind you when I was banned from bowling because of a power trip for sandbagging although I don’t see how when I only bowled one game and I stopped after that because you are not allowed to stop bowling in the middle of a game unless an emergency came up.

Anyways, I’m getting side tracked. I had a 200+ average. Haven’t picked up a ball since that every faithful night I was told to leave until this past Monday. Man, what a difference. I think I may have a 130 something average as I didn’t even stick around to find out lol. Hopefully to improve in the upcoming weeks because I am still not going to bowl winter or any other time after this. I’m not even sure why I said yes now but whatever. As soon as I paid my bowling card fee and was heading back to the lanes I was supposed to be on the person behind the bar keeled over. Nothing like a little excitement to start the night eh? Then the people we were bowling? Can you say inbreeding? It was rightly scary. I almost got a blister on my thumb because my fingers have shrunk and don’t fit properly now. I had to shove 3 pieces of tape in each bowling ball and need to get some grips replaced in at least one of them because you can’t put tape in those. Luckily I could do that myself if I wanted because I have some extras and you just need super glue. But is it really worth it when I have others to choose from and I’m only going to bowl for the 5-6 weeks? Probably not.

Moving Day Soon?

-1You know if I wasn’t so lazy I just might be looking for a new place to live. I have had something else die in the walls again and my place reeks. I still haven’t figured out where they are coming from considering the whole place has new windows, the crack sealed up to the best of their ability but not to mine in my opinion because it looks shotty, a new roof, and vinyl siding. I can’t see any cracks big enough for anything to come in but I could be missing something somewhere. In the meantime though I have no idea where this dead thing is but its on the downstairs floor since I hardly smell it upstairs and phew. Beyond that I have mold which I continually spray with bleach in my utility room which originated from the owners side of the wall due to a water leak from her water heater which she KNEW about, the downstairs toilet does not work, the kitchen sink leaks and it even has a semi new faucet too since it was put in a couple years ago but started leaking this past year, the upstairs bathroom – don’t even get me started. Not to mention the constant power outages due to faulty wiring, which by the way, I can’t even use the sockets in either bathroom because they are blown.

One of my friends is going to move back here when he retires from the military after his year on the boat and decided to move in with me but we will be getting some place else to rent just for the fact that with both of us paying we can get a bigger place. My only requirements are that there be at least 2 bathrooms, a big kitchen, and a huge backyard for the puppies. Prices are still low too but for now I’m dealing with where I’m at. Where am I looking you ask? Any website I can find. My New Place I just found out is a rental site for apartments, condos, and homes. I’m down with renting anything so long as the price is right. If I rent a home I wouldn’t mind having a garage and hard wood floors either. I also forgot to mention that the carpet is hideous and does not even stay tacked down now because it is well over 10 years old. I despise carpet really.

Anyway, since we are all in the technology age now I would only hope you have some sort of smart phone whether it be a Palm, Blackberry which I have or an iPhone. If you have an iPhone you are in luck because at http://www.mynewplace.com/iphone you can grab their exclusive application to use to search while on the go. One of the cool features is that you can search using GPS which most of these phones are capable of these days which is nice especially if you are in a new city looking for a place and are not really sure of the area. You can do searches based on your needs and even keep notes right beside the listing which is a nice feature if you ask me. MyNewPlace in the iPhone app store is the place to get this. You can also share the listings you find intriguing with friends and family using Facebook.

Server Crash

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 | General with Comments Off

So I wake up this morning and check my ever faithful blackberry for any emails I had while I was sleeping since I finally figured out how to cram the LED flashing all night long. Well, I did not get my database back ups from my websites. Odd, figured the server had a glitch. Nope. The effin server got hacked and everything was lost. The only backup they had was from a month ago and I still can’t figure out how the template got fubared when it did not get changed within the past month. I’m still trying to figure out how to fix up the header area where the home/about/etc is set because it is not linking properly and I think that may be from the something else regarding the “home” option. The titles I’m not really sure what to do about at this point because going 3 pages back to around June 20th the titles are fine and dandy. Somethings rotten in Denmark peoples. I completely lost one picture I had up there with one of my dogs. A casualty of war I guess because I already wiped it from my phone.

iVillage for Women

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 | General with Comments Off

I’m actually a semi-frequent visitor to iVillage as I like to read a lot of things that has to do with your health and diet, home and garden, and even the entertainment section. I also love to get new recipe ideas especially if they are fast and easy. Sometimes I will go for the more difficult or involved recipes for on the weekend so I can have leftovers during the week. I also like the fact that I can find recipes that are inexpensive on my wallet because of all those furlough days I have had to endure and I’m still trying to catch up with things.

One of the Top Chef contestants, Ariane Duarte, is in quite a few of the videos on iVillage regarding some fantastic recipes. I personally like the Summer Fruit Shortcake. These are recipes made my moms but really anybody could make them. The best part is that you can buy all of these ingredients from Walmart and you can get the recipes right off of the website. Walmart also happens to be the sponsors for these videos. There are quite a few recipes that involve steak as most people probably love that but I could probably replace it with chicken since I’m not that big a fan of steak. You Can See More Life Made Easy Videos Here at iVillage and I’d recommend printing out some of the recipes to try for yourself. Granted July 4th has already passed but there is always a need for an ice cream flag cake with an abundance of raspberries just like I like them.
