NY, Aspen, Chicago, or Orlando

Friday, June 19th, 2009 | General with Comments Off

The choice is up for grabs should you happen to win any of the 4 trips that BluFrog is offering right now in their It’s a Blu World contest. If you are at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen then this contest is for you. There are 3 ways to enter and you can enter using all 3 methods should you choose. The first is by commenting on the contest page, sending a tweet via Twitter and must include #bluworld and http://bit.ly/UiiJy in your tweet to be registered for the contest, and finally write a blog post about the contest that BluFrog is offering. The contest opens June 16, 2009 and end July 17, 2009 so there is plenty of time to get the entries in on time.

Grand prize is a trip for 2 to any of the aforementioned cities with the winner choosing the location. I think I’d pick Orlando or Aspen. Orlando merely for the fact that I love vacationing down there and could see my grandfather. The Orlando package includes a rookie driving experience though and we all know that I love to drive fast. Aspen for the fact that I have never been there and 2 tickets to the Winter X Games. I love the skiing and snowboarding events.

Chicago will get you 2 tickets to Lollapalooza should you want to see how many of the 120+ acts you could cram in 3 days. New York gives you the opportunity to see Times Square on New Years Eve as well as a helicopter ride for 2 over New York.

Now should you not win one of the 4 trips, there is also a fifth prize of an ultimate gaming package. The package includes an Xbox 360 Elite System, Rock Band 2 Bundle, Call of Duty, Xbox wireless adapter, Complimentary X-Shot, and lets not forget 2 cases of Blu Frog Energy drink so you can stay up all night long playing these games online with your friends. So be sure to get those entries in now as the contest is already open.

Four Foods on Friday #80

Friday, June 19th, 2009 | General with 5 Comments

Time to learn more food facts according to me. If you are not interested you can move along. As always be sure to check out Fun Craft and Recipes to join each week and to spread the news so others might join as well.

1. bestmomma’s question. If you could copy the cooking expertise and ability of one person, who would it be?
Hmm, maybe Ina Garten off of Food Network. She comes up with the best dishes and has excellent desserts as well.
2. What’s the first red food that comes to your mind?
Lobster of course. You can’t go wrong with that while living on the coast.
3. How do you eat your strawberries?
Ala carte. Nothing on them, just slice them up and chow down.
4. Share a recipe that uses cherries.
Well, I was going to try this soon as I just got a cobbler recipe and cherries would be good to use. This is taken straight from Rachel Ray off of the Food Network website yesterday as a matter of fact since I am going berry picking tomorrow.

* 5 to 6 cups frozen fruit [your choice - original recipe was for peaches and 2 (1-ounce) boxes or 1/3 cup golden raisins, a couple of handfuls]
* 1 package complete biscuit mix (recommended: Jiffy brand)
* 1/2 cup water
* 1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus 2 tablespoons, divided
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
* 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, eyeball it
* 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
* 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, a couple of pinches
* Pinch salt
* 1/4 cup, (2-ounce) package, sliced almonds

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Place frozen fruit in an 8 by 8 glass baking dish, defrost in microwave for 3 minutes on high. While the fruit is defrosting, make the cobbler topping. In a bowl, combine the biscuit mix with a 1/2 cup of water, stir until thoroughly combined but do not overwork. In another bowl combine 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, pepper, and a pinch of salt. Remove fruit from the microwave and combine with the sugar mixture in baking dish. Top the seasoned fruit with biscuit mix, use your fingers to press out until even. Top the biscuit mix with almonds. Mix remaining cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle over the biscuits. Bake until cobbler top is firm and lightly golden and fruit is bubbly and hot, about 20 to 25 minutes.

Serve warm as is or with ice cream and whipped cream if you have some on hand.
