Four Foods on Friday #57

Friday, November 28th, 2008 | General with 5 Comments

Time to learn more food facts according to me. If you are not interested you can move along. As always be sure to check out Fun Craft and Recipes to join each week and to spread the news so others might join as well.

1. What’s your favorite carbonated beverage?
Diet Dr. Pepper hands down. I’ve been a fan of Dr. Pepper ever since I was a teen but just switched to the Diet because it’s better for me.
2. What’s your favorite spicy food?
Hmm, probably Mexican.
3. How do you handle hot dishes? Oven mitt, pot holder, towel?
Usually I’ll grab the nearest towel unless I remember to take the pot holders out of the drawer to use for whatever I may have in the oven.
4. Ice cream. How do you like yours?
Well, I can’t even remember the last time I had this. But I like it sort of melty so I don’t get brain freeze when I devour it lol

Dry Skin, Dry Nails

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 | General with Comments Off on Dry Skin, Dry Nails

During the winter months I always seem to get dryer skin than normal just like most people I’m sure but it is also itchy. Working at the hospital I also have to wash my hands more often most people which leaves me with dryer than normal hands to the point where the tips end up splitting because there is no moisture there at all. I was even told about a humidifier last week due to how bad they are looking at the moment. Along with dry skin on my hands though I really think that all that hand washing does something to my nails as well because they continuously break off. I normally do not wear nail polish because for some reason after one day the polish starts to chip off from too many hand washes and I really honestly believe my nails become flimsier with it on. I like wearing it only on special occasions only if my nails are at least someone long to be presentable in it.

Why is it that there are so many different brands and colors of nail polish though I wonder. I mean some of them do not even make sense to me like the dark browns. Who wears that? It is nice to have them all in one place to actually look at the colors though and pick your favorites. I personally go for the light pinks. Not sure why but I like those. I also like the brands that have a fast drying time and sometimes with a little gloss in it. I honestly couldn’t tell you which brands those might be I’m sure that you can find something similar at the Hello Gorgeous store.

67 Hours

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 | Personal with Comments Off on 67 Hours

That’s how many hours I’m over on my 360 that I’m allowed to carry over for the new year. Of course we are not allowed to get paid for them especially now since everybody is doing department cuts, etc. So what to do, duh, take the fricken days off of course lol I’m on vacation now and so far everybody is trying to feed me for Thanksgiving even though I’m working. I always schedule myself to work on the holidays so I can avoid all of this. I like the time to myself and over the years I’ve come to enjoy it even more.

Sadly with these holidays all the new cell phones are on sale and I can’t get one even though I really, REALLY want one because I am going to be switching services a month before my contract is up because I never asked to get swapped from Suncom to T-Mobile. I never asked to loose my internet connection on a nightly basis. I never asked to loose all my caller ringback tones and the option of them changing on each caller. I also never asked for my plan to be discontinued once it is up. AT&T here I come. Yes I know their dead zones are the same as I deal with now but a little bit more expanded but I can pay $10.00 more a month and have my crackberry with unlimited data plan, etc almost like I have now because we get a corporate discount with them too even though they are scum and don’t have an actual rep down here. I mean why don’t they think they need one? It’s a huge market down here and we have a HUGE hospital.

Where’s the Bonus?

Monday, November 24th, 2008 | General with 1 Comment

No where, that’s where. Along with all the cutbacks and the hospital wanting people to take furloughs without pay the last time I saw a bonus was about $300 and they taxed the sucker. I’ve been here almost 20 years and have seen 2, count them 2 bonuses. It’s just not right but there isn’t much anybody can do I guess unless getting a new job with bonuses is in the cards. With the economy the way it is though I doubt anybody is going to be getting bonuses but I most likely am wrong and those people are going to be really lucky. At least we have/had, not sure if it is still there but last Friday we had a gas station that was selling gas for 99 cents. That’s right folks, eat your hearts out.

Some people aren’t that lucky though and during this holiday season I need coupons just like you need coupons. Right now you can use SpaLook.com coupons to help get some quality beauty products for all the female friends you have or in your family. I’m going to be digging way deep for buying gifts this year IF I can even scrounge up that much due to lack of available work on my second job and this possible furlough thing going on. I might as well pass these saving on to you too because I know I’m not the only one feeling this strain. I have a few friends who have lost a few thousand on the stock market and then I have one friend who has lost thousands upon thousands. I feel for these people and am glad I didn’t have the money to invest but then again, I don’t have anything to fall back on either.

What to Do

Monday, November 24th, 2008 | General with Comments Off on What to Do

Almost time for vacation for me but our hospital had some sort of public forum I guess. I’m not even really sure exactly what it was but the local news was there to see what sort of cuts the hospital was going to make in view of all of this economic cut backs as we are a state institution. Some people were going to have some furloughs without pay and that it was going to trickle down the ranks but I got to tell ya, us peons can’t afford even 1 day off without pay because a good chunk of us have 2 jobs to try to make ends meet because we can’t get paid enough as it is. No raises are to be had. No new positions are to be had. No new hires are to be had and quite a few lay offs will be happening.

Some movies coming out over the holidays, Transporter 3 which I want to go see and oddly enough Four Christmases. Ya I know its probably a chick flick but it looks to hilarious. I was going to get the book of Twilight today in the book store to read before I went to go see the movie but they were all out. Must be like a Harry Potter fad or something but with vampires. I can’t see how it could be more popular than Anne Rice although her movies didn’t turn out that well if you ask me. Then there is Brian Lumley which those I think were excellent and could potentially be excellent movies.

Holiday Shop your Glasses

Monday, November 24th, 2008 | General with Comments Off on Holiday Shop your Glasses

I really can’t understand why we can’t have holiday prices year round. I mean why does it have to be only certain months? I would love to pay cheaper prices throughout the year. I’m not sure many people really think about getting the things they need during the holidays unless they break. I have actually been in a green mood lately with regards to color not envy and personally like this green pair of green frames. The ones I just recently bought at home to replace the ones I broke are a greyish brown I guess you’d call it. They are the shape I like and the frames themselves are very petite. I’ve have had some big honking frames before and it is not fun when you have a bad eye prescription because the eyeglass pieces are thick and heavy. Getting smaller frames will get you a lighter and more manageable eyeglass piece inside so if there is anything you are pulling from my experience, pull that.

With the abundant selection of Zenni Optical, you can get a pair of Holiday frames for a reasonable price to go with a few outfits with regards to color matching the frames. I have one friend who does this almost on a daily basis with eyeglass frames and shoes. I can only imaging how many pairs of each she has. I personally like to stick with one pair because I lose things to often. If your kids are in need of a new set of frames they even have a couple that look exactly like Harry Potters from the movie. I can only imagine how thrilled they would be over that as they have the beginnings of their Halloween costume already to go.
